DreamHost is owned by its employees. We’re a tight-knit family and we’re not looking to sell out to investors or media conglomerates or other gigantic companies who care more about the bottom line than providing solid web hosting.

Dreamhost Review by Mike, December 7, 2008
Dreamhost is at most good for new webmasters without at lot of sites. My experience was more downtime than my other host, and they suspended my sites without notice when they decided I was using too much bandwidth, which was a fraction of their advertised bandwidth allotment.
Dreamhost Review by Alex, December 8, 2008
I’ve been using Dreamhost for a variety of purposes for over 3 years. I use them for a site that requires a lot of bandwidth and a good deal of server power and it’s never had a problem. I also use them to host a few blogs, and there’s been no problem there either. I’ve started running into some downtime issues, but their support staff is great, and have been doing what they can. Overall though, Mike is right, this is a good option for new webmasters.

Ive been webmastering for a few years now, Ive always used Dreamhost and have rarely had bad times with them. Down times occasionally, but nothing that would absolutely shatter my business. I havent heard of a hosting company YET who has never went down so why spend the money if you dont have to. You get tons of bandwidth, decent customer service, one click installs for those who dont know who to self-install things. If I had to do it all over again, i wouldnt change anything and i get checks every week from my business.

I would suggest you only use Dreamhost for hosting your images for splogs. If you have a site that is at 1000 uniques or better per day then you should be making enough money to use a better host than these guys. My site loaded slower than many others and over a 2 year period I had 4 downtimes of 12 hours or longer. When they go down they go down hard.
I would have to question anyone who has hosted with Dreamhost for 12 months or longer and claim no downtime. Check Dreamhosts status report at dreamhoststatus (.com) and be amazed at how much downtime they admit to themselves.
Dreamhost Review by Summer Lynn, February 11, 2009
I was hosting on Dreamhost for 8 years. 7 years of no problems, easy, great support. No issues, then about a year and half ago every day the server was locked up and down. Support said it was my problem with a simple WordPress install with NO traffic. BS. My server would lock up for up to 10 hours at a time. Dreamhost just didn’t seem to care. Switched to a different server and had same problems. I switched to Hostgator and no problems at all. 100% uptime and I saved a bunch of $$$. Skip Dreamhost, they are not the same company they used to be. If you are running an adult site, uptime and speed are everything. The thing that bothered me the most is they always blamed my WP install, they provided it to me! At least admit you were to blame. My advice is to test a host with a small install and decide if they are for you.
Luv,
Summer

Dreamhost is a good newbie beginner host, for those who have absolutely no clue how to install anything or run anything. Their control panel is pretty and their one-click installs of major open source software is excellent. Regarding reliability however, the server was always up and down. Support in these cases, was little or no help at all, and mostly used the old “reboot the server” fix to resolve most problems.
If you run a site with less than 20 hits a day, then choose Dreamhost, otherwise, run for the hills.
Oh and their stupid newsletter is a joke. Just the owner trying to be a comedian, which he fails miserably at.
