Were i writing a review on 1and1 last year, the results would have been more favorable… The past year at 1and1 on a shared server with their developers plan was a pure NIGHTMARE.

I chose 1and1 because their plan was 3000 gigs of bandwidth with unlimited domains for only $20 per month.. At the time, I thought this was a great idea, so I opened an account with 1and1 and transferred all 107 domains to their registrar.

The first year was great with virtually no issues whatsoever, however, my nightmare began in January of 2008 when a hacker injected an auction script with maliscious mysql.

Ok, well good thing I had a backup.. Let me tell you this.. calling 1and1’s tech support is enough to make Jesus Christ scream out “WHAT THE FUCK”… These people at 1and1 tech support are nothing more than outsource call center reps in the Phillipines and India.. They are not techs, know absolutely NOTHING about hosting, how websites work, nor do they know anything at all about servers.. They can barely understand or speak english, yet 1and1 thinks it’s a good idea to have the dumbest people on the planet assisting their customers….. So.. I call for a backup/recovery… TWO WEEKS LATER they dumbn morons at 1and1 tell me that they OVERWROTE MY BACKUP and now my backup was a blank disk!! They deleted the entire server… After being down for nearly a month, I lost several high ranked search engine positions…

1and1 since then has been one problem after another.. from consistent downtime to database errors.. not to mention the fact that they STEAL YOUR TRAFFIC… Their servers are configured so that all 404 error traffic for any file that is not .htm, .html, .gif or .jpg goes to THEIR PARKING PAGE FOR WHICH THEY’RE PAID PER CLICK!!

Every phone call to 1and1 to report a problem was a nightmare.. It is worse than talking to a retard!! Even emailing these incompetent dolts was a headache as they can’t even understand a simple question and reply back giving you the run around…

Due to the incompetence of 1and1 I lost tons of thousands of dollars.. lost a boatload of traffic and more.. Why didn’t I move? Because I had over 107+ sites on there and the mere thought of moving it all with various script configs, databases and more, I feared moving due to the possibility of yet more problems… Until recently when my new host moved everything for me after I shopped around for a new host.. since 1and1 after being with them for 32 months out of nowhere says they do not allow adult content.. Anyway.. so, now I am on my own box and my traffic is over 500% MORE than what it was with 1and1 with no problems and they all speak english.

If you value your business, and your websites.. stay far, far away from 1and1… If you have a short temper, 1and1 is guaranteed to make your head explode!!!

Only thing they’re good for in my opinion is for domain registrations.
